Figurative Language
Idioms, palindromes, similes, metaphors, oxymorons,.....etc. Figurative Language makes what we say and write more descriptive. What is your favorite figure of speech or type of figurative language? Why do you enjoy using it? What would stories be like without figurative language? If you can think of a new palindrome phrase or riddle, then share it with us.

I would have to say that my favorite figurative language would be 'My dogs are barking.' My favorite type of figurative language would be idioms which is what the figurative language above is. I enjoy using it because my family and I kid about it and take it seriously. For example, 'Kill two birds with one stone', we say, "What?! Why would you do such a thing?!" I love it so much because it makes everyone laugh and have a great time! Stories wouldn't be as much exciting if there was no figurative language. It would make things less suspenseful and make it more boring. I wouldn't be able to picture the story in my head like I usually do. I have two palindrome phrases. The first one is: Do geese see God? The second one is: Never odd or even. :)

My favorite kind of figurative language is idioms. I like idioms because it makes things more fun. An example is "kicked the bucket", to make things less depressing. I enjoy using idioms because it is a funny way to think of things. Stories without idioms would be boring because it gives a story the taste of it. Figurative language also helps the reader focus. ReplyDeleteOkay, well I like using figurative language a lot in my stories because it gets the reader more interested and entertained by the story. These things can make the reader laugh with a funny pun, or get them interested with a metaphor. They could also maybe get interested when they hear a cleaver idiom or a familiar one. A book or story could use figurative language to get the text more interesting or to get the story up beat a bit with a laugh. If you were to pick my favorite figurative language, I would say idioms would be my favorite. But if we could put quotes or something in there, then I would choose that. I love using figurative language in my stories because it makes my writing so much better that it could be, and it always makes it better.
ReplyDeleteI'm a go read a book.

My favorite figurative language is oxymorons. I like them because they are funny and amusing. I don't use them myself but I do enjoy reading them. Some of them are, black light, cold hot dog, dry ice, and good grief. Whenever you describe something by comparing it with something else, you are using figurative language. Stories are much more intersting with figurative language. I am glad that we have figurative language.

I don't know what my favorite kind of figuative language is. Alliterations are fun to write because they are funny like this one. Purple penguins poop pumpkin pie, pots and pottys. See they can be really funny. But I do like oxymorons too because they make you think hard and go hmm. You know what I mean like this one. Wet Dryice. How could it be wet it's DRYice. See. But figuertive language does help you give more discription especialy similes and metaphors I think. I think it was really fun to learn the pallendromes though they are fun to but not the numbers 89 and 98 ;). No those to numbers are not fun whatsoever. But I did think of a word pallendrome it's: EVILS STAR BUT LEVEL TUB RATS SLIVE.

My favorite type of figurative language is an idiom. I like idioms because they say things that are funny such as, it's raining cats and dogs. I find it interesting that it doesn't really mean that. I always like to use them in stories. If there was no figurative language, stories would not be as interesting. If you said, " It is sure raining hard", it's not very interesting. If you said " It is raining cats and dogs", it would be more interesting. I am glad there is figurative language. It's a way to make a story good.

My favorite figurative language is a palindrome. I like them because they are involved in math. Math is my favorite subject. If stories had no figurative language stories would be not descriptive. They would not have any imagery. I would never want to read. A palindrome that I found is radar. I love figurative language.

My favorite type of figurative language is a palindrome. My favorite type of palindrome are with NUMBERS. I am still in shock because of how long it took to solve the problem on Monday. The best palindrome ever is Race-car. Mostly because the onomatopoeia for race-car is VROOM VROOM. Without figurative language in stories or essays everything would be very dull. A example of a palindrome phrase is -Step on no pets.

I have to say I really like similes. I know, kind of corny but you can make them whatever you want. They can be elegant, funny, happy, Sadie whatever. My favorite simile I have heard is ," the moon shined as bright as the stars up above." It's my favorite because it just in a way makes me happy because I'm a note so a night person than a day person besides December 25th ;). But I like idioms and alliterations too. Basically, I like them all but similes are me favorites!

Metaphors interest me because they are definite and strong-spirited in a way. Metaphors have made up their mind when they are written, because if you say, "I am a lion", it sounds very definite and strong-willed. And I like people who will stand up for what they believe and take a challenge when necessary, and if Metaphors were a person, I would be a Metaphor's best friend. Hyperboles are my least favorite because they exaggerate, and if Hyperboles were a person, they would be my arch-enemy. No, they just would not be my friend. But, hyperboles are not necessary I think, and I also think they are just complaints that people should just not say, because they should be thankful with what they have. (Even though I complain.) But, I am definitely solid like a stone, unmovable, but also movable if you have the right reasons.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite type of figurative language are idioms. I enjoy it so much because it is so commonly used and there are lots of different ones that you can use when you even talk to someone. Stories would be very dull because figurative language give you a picture of what things are like. They also can make you feel more interested in stories because they are so detailed and they aren't boring at all. I also like alliterations because they are a challenge to say and I like challenges plus my name an alliteration. (Well my first and last name at least.) What has 4 wheels and goes vroom vroom????????????????????????

My favorite type of figurative language are idioms. I really like idioms, because they make a story more interesting. Instead of saying it was raining hard, say it was raining cats and dogs. I like to use idioms because they give people a reason to smile. They are goofy, but usually understandable. Stories would be less exciting, because the subject they are talking couldn't be exaggerated, therefore being boring, and will NOT pique anyone's intrest. My least favorite figurative language are palindromes, because they don't spice writing, they arn't noticed at sight, they are usually not funny, and lastly some of them make no grammatical sense. I really like idioms, and dislike palindromes, but that is my opinion!

Wow that's a hard one. I do have to agree with Veda because I really like a lot. Because oxymorons are fun because I like saying small crowd and how can a crowd be small. Also alliterations are cool to because I always say sally saw shells at the sea shore. Overall I think all figurative language is really fun. Because always when I do it I have a good time. Out of all of them the easiest I think is the similes because all you have to look for is the words like and as. Metaphors are a little trickier but I still like them. Even though I like all of them my favorite has to be palindromes. They are so cool when we were making up the palindromes in class me and Julia came up with taco cat and I thought it was hilarious. But the hard palindromes are the numbers like 89 and 98.

My favorite figurative language is probably a palindrome.I like using palindromes because it sounds cool when you say the phrase with a palindrome in it.One example is "MADAM IM ADAM.I like using figuratve language because it kinda spices up the story to make it sound better."Story's would be pretty boring without figurative language. Some other palindromes are 15 and 51.Xamoi and Iomax. And there are lots more.
ReplyDeleteXamoi$$
My favorite is a palindrome. Wthout figuritive language books would be boring. There would be less joke books printed, and less jobs. A palindrome is a word or prase spelled the sama backward as it is forward. An example of an palindrome is "race car", and "dad". Palindrromes can work with numbers 2 an example is 123456789987654321.
ReplyDeletejoey
My favorite figuritave language is probably oxymoron. But palendromes are fun, too! a good example of a palendrome would be, "Madam I'm Adam". Storys just wouldn't be the same withoute palendromes. It would be like living in a shelter with no food, or painting without a brush.I like figurative language because it makes EVERYTHING more interestiong!I love figurative language!
ReplyDeleteWILL
My favorite figurtive language is oxymoron. I have examples like cold hotdog, big baby, etc. They are words that don't agree with each other (opposites). Humans use oxymorons without even knowing you say this hotdog is cold and Jimmy is being a big baby. I like using it because it's so commonly used. That is why I like oxymorons.Jessica.
ReplyDeleteoxymorons are funny.Well at least I think they are funny
DeleteI really love palindromes because they are really interesting and fun! I thinks it's really fun to try words out and find some words that are palindromes. Figurative language is a great tool when it comes to writing stories. I think writing stories without figurative language would be so so boring! Palindromes are really cool because you can use it with numbers and words. Tell me I am double, single, blue, green, and gray what am I?

My favorite is a simile. They use the word like or as.That is so hard not to use like or as. I love similes because they are really easy to rember and they are fun to say.Similes are like metaphor but you cant use like or as. I also know it very well. This is why I love similes.
ReplyDeleteThe top one is mine after Nairobi
ReplyDeletesorry this is HAYDEN
DeleteMy favorite figurative language are oxymoron's. The reason why I like oxymoron's is because they add more detail. one example of oxymoron's is, pretty ugly some one can just be ugly or they're pretty ugly meaning that they're really ugly. Stories without figurative language is just a bunch of words with very little meaning. Here is a palindrome, wolf tar rat flow. I love oxymoron's.
ReplyDeleteRW
My favorite type of figurative language is and idiom. They can be funny, and they always have such a cool history behind them that no one knows about, but everyone knows what it means, and I love idioms because you can easily use it and not even realize it. Idioms are like secret messages that not everyone can understand, and you are speaking English, but still people have to ask, what does that mean? I think that stories would be really boring with out figurative language because it would only be a story, not even interesting, and boring, and plains, flat, thin, quick, TERRIBLE!!! I like figurative language, because it can make the worst writer in the world write a little bit better. And there are so many kinds that you never have to worry about running out of them because they are always there and there are always so many that you can always find one perfect for you!

My favorite figurative language is palidrom because you can have them be numbers or words like racecar, eye, 36563. I also like similes because they are easy to wright like, I am happy as if someone won the lottery. I realy like all figurative laungues. Also oxymoron like its raining cats and dogs. Also the DRY WETlands. A MALL LLAMA. :)
ReplyDeleteKAtlin :) :) :) :)
I like oxymorons because they are really funny.Oxymorons make things sound like something its not.Like for example, worthless gold and pretty ugly.I don't know what stories would be like without these.I mean the only really worthless gold is fools gold. And pretty ugly means someone is really ugly. But i still think they are funny.
ReplyDeleteCameron#25
peace out fool!
Here is my palindrome, WOLF STAR AND RATS FLOW.
ReplyDeleteGabriel Fatyga
I think that figurative language possibly the most important part of literature. I like puns, even though they're rarely funny. I like oxymorons because they're kind of ironic. One of my favorite puns is "People ask me, isn't your mustache annoying? But I think it's really grown on me." Riddle: What's never even or odd? A palindrome!
ReplyDeleteMatt
I like Oxymorons because oxmorons are funny and don't make sense. Oxymorons don't make sense at all like "Pretty ugly". Seriusly that makes no sense because who would be pretty and ugly at the same time? I also like similies and all the other stuff but i like oxymorons the best out of all of them. My favorite Oxymoron is "Pretty ugly". Those are my favorite things about Oxymorons.
ReplyDeleteBen #30
my favorite figurative of speech is an palidrom. I like them because I think that it is cool how they can be spelled the same way forward and backward. I like how if you do an adding problem you can get a palidrome with numbers. I think that it is crazy that someone has writing the worlds largest palindrome that has like 4,000 words or something I could never do that. So that is why I really like palindromes and I think that they are fun to learn about.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite figurative of speech is simle because they are a little funny. But I say them a lot. They are my favorite because I say them alot to my mom becase I dont like to eat all my lunch so after school Im always like im starving to death. The one I think is the most funniest is Id rather chew broken glass. It means I dont want to do this. They are3 my favorite because its basically the only one I use more. Why is that my favorite?Because its funny like I said. Its used so often when im with my mom.

My favorite figuritive language is an idiom. One reason is because you can make excuses like you told me to kill two birds with one stone. My favorite idiom is kill some time. I also like idioms because they are fun to use. There are a lot of idioms so you can use a lot of them. That is my favorite language.
ReplyDeleteJAKE Dinosaurs
my favrite fegertive lange is plandrome becuse its funny like hears one for exapol like verm verm now thats funny and sometimes it evan dosen make sense. ethan cox
ReplyDeleteMy favorite figurative language is similes. They are easy to write because all you have to use is like or as. The similes are also fun to write. They are as easy as pie(that last sentence was a simile). I learned similes when I was in 4th grade they the easyiest figurative language to do. Our house is as big as the grand canyon that was another simile.
ReplyDeleteNOAH SHIEl
For me i love oxymoron. I enjoy using it because it has my favorite show in it ¨Walking Dead¨. Without figurative language in stories it would be BORING. Heres a Riddle try to figure it out. What do you say when you stop a dog with spots. Figure it out.
ReplyDeleteThe figurative language I like is Nouns.I enjoy using nouns because, nouns are like every single word.I think in a story if there weren't any nouns in a story then the story would have no plot.I also like palindromes because if you can find a word that can be one that's so cool.I think it's cool how you can spell racecar backwards. Also its amazing how that guy who made a 42,000 palindrome.
ReplyDeleteAlli
My favorite figurative language would have to be the pun. Because I find that it is really cool that it is the one that might make you laugh the most. For example " If a pencil had an eraser on both ends what would be the point?" but it really means where would the eraser go. To me that is the best one. If there was no figurative language the stories would be less interesting and it would probably be so boring. I enjoy this the most because it gives you a good laugh they are hard to think of and it really makes you think. That is why I like the pun the most.
